Water Testing

Water Testing

Overview

Because public and communal drinking water supplies are governed by enforceable EPA Primary Standards, this section pertains primarily to private wells. Where these private wells are used for commercial purposes (such as a restaurant), they may also be subject to governmental regulation.

Water Testing- What's in Your Water?

  • Effective water treatment for your home or business begins with a water test.
  • Many homeowners assume that their water is safe and avoid testing for harmful contaminants.
    • It's the "What you don't know won't hurt you." syndrome.
  • You should know what's in your water and whether treatment is appropriate for you.
    • Almost all water problems can be treated
  • Some contaminants have only aesthetic effects or are annoying.
  • Some contaminants pose significant health risks.

Health Risks Related to Water Contaminants

Note: Consult your physician for any medical concerns you might have regarding water contaminants. Good Water Company does not provide advice on health issues.

Good Water Company Policies and Procedures

  • Limited, on-site testing is available, at no charge, for screening purposes only
  • It is our company policy to not recommend or install systems for wells without a recent water test by an EPA-approved lab.
    • Be suspicious of any competitor who does not require such a test or who cannot interpret or explain the test results to you.
    • Do not rely on back-of-the-truck or on-site water test results. Such tests are only useful for initial screening purposes.
  • Let Good Water Company make recommendations for testing
    • Good Water Company has a vast database of private well tests
    • We have an area-specific database of known well water contaminants
    • We have (uncommon) lab tests of city water
    • We understand local and seasonal variation of city water
  • The EPA recommends testing private drinking water sources every year for:
    • Total coliform bacteria
    • Nitrates
    • Total dissolved solids (TDS)
    • pH levels
  • Leave the testing to our trained professionals who will handle:
    • Collection of samples
    • Overnight delivery to laboratory
    • Testing as per the U.S. Safe Water Drinking Water Act
    • EPA-approved laboratories
    • Rush service is available
  • We know how to interpret test results and we know the EPA standards
  • If your tests so indicate, we will make recommendations for treatment
  • If your tests indicate that treatment is not necessary, we will advise you accordingly.
    • Our objective is to provide only what you need (if anything), not what we need to sell
  • The ultimate compliment about our integrity is when we test a water well and advise the client that the test interpretation indicates that treatment is not required
  • We are an independent dealer of several lines of equipment
    • We can customize a system that is suitable for your water quality, your needs and your budget
  • Good Water Company has over 18 years of experience in testing and treating water in northern New Mexico
If you have a private well, we can assist you in testing your well and interpreting your test results. If (and only if) water treatment is required, we will provide a competitive estimate to address your water concerns.
